EIUI Partnership Initiatives with the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization

NAFO-2014-report
The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) recently released its Annual Report which includes an account of the research partnership with EIUI on page 18.

The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) is a regional, intergovernmental fisheries management body that conducts scientific research, provides advice, and facilitates cooperation among its members on management and conservation of fisheries resources. As a research partner, EIUI has been accredited with official observer status for attendance at meetings of the Scientific Council and Fisheries Commission of NAFO.

In 2014, members of the EIUI team attended NAFO meetings to observe the communication of scientific advice, the development of management advice, and decision-making processes in the organization. NAFO is one of the three case-study organizations included in doctoral research on the role of scientific information in policy and decision-making for fisheries management being conducted by Suzuette Soomai, Interdisciplinary PhD student with the EIUI research program.

Members of the EIUI research team will be attending the 2015 NAFO Scientific Council meeting in June and the annual meeting in September. In addition, NAFO and EIUI are co-hosting the 2015 meeting of the Advisory Board of the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA), which will meet in Halifax on 5-9 October 2015.
