Environmental Information: Use and Influence (EIUI) Research Initiative Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Partnership Development Grant
This project is intended to build a partnership between the Dalhousie University research team and Environment Canada, Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organizations, Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, and WWF Canada. A comparative case study approach, applying a suite of research methodologies, will be used to examine the information-policy interface, accounting for different information life cycles and policy-making cultures that may exist within the organizations. The partnership objectives are:
• to explore, develop, and apply best partnership relationship arrangements with the governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners;
• to establish a research agenda, in consultation with the partners, to address relevant, original questions within the theme of the research initiative;
• to identify and apply best practices for effective communication of research results within science and policy practitioner and academic communities; and
• to study new, unanticipated questions as the research progresses.
As a Partnership Development Grant, this project is intended to provide a foundation for future collaboration, including seeking funding through the SSHRC Partnership program (which supports research over four to seven years, to the amount of $500,000 to $2.5 million).
